Nora Ephron, the late author, was so upset by hers that she wrote a book, I Hate My Neck. And she isn’t the only one. Neck lifts were up 6% in 2013 over 2012, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). I am happy to say that now there’s new hope for anyone who wants to do something about his or her neck and loose skin on the face—around the mouth and chin, jawline and eye area. This hope is called the Exilis ELITEⓇ, an extraordinary device that I have recently introduced in my practice. The Exilis ELITEⓇ uses radiofrequency energy to deliver heat in a controlled fashion to the dermis of the skin, causing collagen remodeling and a tightening effect. It’s not a laser and there is no downtime, pain or discomfort associated with treatments. In fact, sun exposure DOES NOT affect the results and the Exilis ELITEⓇ may be used safely on any skin type or color.

I decided to add the Exilis ELITEⓇ to my practice after trying it on one side of my neck. The result? The treated side looked smoother and tighter after only one session! How did it feel? I experienced only a warming sensation as the energy was delivered, similar to a hot stone massage. I have been using the Exilis ELITEⓇ on my patients with great results to tighten necks, jowls, eyes and the décolleté. The recommended number of treatments to see optimum results for the face and neck is typically three sessions at 10 to 14 day intervals. If skin tightening on your face and neck isn’t a priority for you, another advantage of the Exilis ELITEⓇ is its ability to tighten and contour the body. When the energy is placed more deeply in the skin, it actually dissolves fat and tightens the skin. By cooling the surface of the skin the heat reaches the subcutaneous fat and destroys fat cells while it stimulates and strengthens collagen. The Exilis ELITEⓇ’s tightening and contouring properties can improve trouble areas like the tummy, knees, love handles, saddle bags, arms and back bulges. The recommended body regimen is 4 to 6 sessions repeated at 7 to 14 day intervals.
