Newsletter #3 / Spring 2013

March 18, 2013

“Welcome to the Spring 2013 issue of our quarterly newsletter, filled with all the news that will help you keep your skin healthy and beautiful on an ongoing basis. I just posted an amusing anecdote about why you should avoid applying lotion before going through airport security.”
--Dr. Michele Grodberg

It’s no wonder your skin might appear dry and dull after months of cold weather. Luckily, we experts have an arsenal of magic bullets that can reverse the ravages of time and the elements, so your skin looks and acts younger than its years. Now is a good time to try one, two or more of them or I can give you my personal recommendations during a consultation.

1. Try a skin rejuvenation procedure.

It can make the fastest change for the better. The mildest procedure is microdermabrasion, where a precise stream of very fine crystals is directed onto the skin, loosening the layer of dead skin cells that forms on the surface, and revealing fresh invigorated skin. Chemical peels or IPL (intense pulsed light) treatments are stronger, while a laser, like the Fraxel Dual, can erase fine lines and discolorations and smooth deeper wrinkles. I would be glad to discuss the options that would be best for your skin needs.

2. Update your skin care regimen.

Sticking to a daily plan with products suited to your complexion type is probably the best step you can take for a lifetime of great skin. The basics generally include a cleanser, an antioxidant and a retinol formulation. I also recommend an exfoliant twice weekly. Again, I can suggest the specific products for your skin.

5 Things to do now for beautiful skin

3. Consider Botox and fillers to combat the early signs of aging.

The judicious use of Botox and fillers, like Juvederm, Radiesse, Sculptra and Belotero, used correctly and/or in concert, which I would be delighted to explain during a personal consultation, can help stave off aging and keep your face looking more youthful and natural.

4. Address off-face issues.

Spider veins on your legs can be easily eradicated with sclerotherapy, where a solution, called a sclerosing agent, is injected into the veins, irritating the lining of the blood vessel walls so the vessels seal off and gradually fade. Freckles and brown spots on your arms and legs can be erased with Fraxel, while body hair can also be eliminated with laser treatments.

5. Don’t forget sun care.

April through October, when the sun is strongest, are the prime months for protecting your face, chest, arms and hands with a high SPF sunscreen, preferably containing micronized zinc oxide. Our MGMD® line contains the right formulation for your needs. Remember, sun damage is responsible not only for premature skin aging, but also skin cancer so daily use of sun protection is a must.

Say so long to dry chapped skin. This rich highly absorbent cream, enriched with smoothing dimethicone, doesn’t feel at all greasy, yet stays on even after washing your hands. You’ll be surprised by its moisturizing comfort. 3 oz Tube.
